Island team look to pocket snooker title
Bermuda's snooker players will be looking to pocket top honours when the Island's Old Colony Club plays host to the 29th Annual International Snooker League tournament which gets underway on Friday.
After finishing third during last year's event in Halifax, Novia Scotia, the local players will be hoping home advantage plays into their hands.
While the Island last hoisted the overall team championship in 1989, President of the Bermuda Snooker Association and Old Colony Club `B' representative Stewart Greenslade said that the Island's chances were as good as anyone else's.
"We can expect some phenomenal snooker," said Greenslade. "We have some great players coming to the Island so it's going to be some of the best snooker we've seen in a long time.
"Because it is a handicap tournament our chances are just as good as any of the other team's. It's anybody's tournament."
Bermuda will be represented by two teams in the week long tournament.
The Island's hopes for glory will rest heavily upon the shoulders of `A' Division players Stephen Roberts and Robert Gaglio.
Ken Shea of Halifax is the reigning individual handicap champion.
