Under-21 plan is grounded
Plans to have all of the Island's Under-21 youngsters play among the First Division have been temporarily pegged down at the crease.
Bermuda Cricket Board of Control president Reggie Pearman announced yesterday that all matches involving the developmental squad have been cancelled for this month.
This now means that Somerset Cricket Club will have a first round bye in the Combined Knockout Competition on Saturday, while Police will have to wait another week before kicking off their 2002 league campaign.
While citing an initial low response from club affiliates as to the cause for the cancellation, the president still remained optimistic that a team will be formed to compete in the First Division at a later date.
"We are optimistic that over the course of the coming weeks that clubs will register players for this team and the squad can begin it's games against league opposition in June," said Pearman.
The developmental squad is a team that mainly targets younger players that may not be playing regular cricket at the club level.
There is no age limit for the players and squad members can play for their home club as well as play for the BCBC team.
