Swimmers shine at Carifta
Bermuda?s young swimmers have been making their mark at the Carifta Championships in Barbados over the weekend, at least two of them qualifying for the Junior Worlds due to be held in Brazil this August.
On Saturday night, Eleanor Gardner snatched bronze in the 100 metres freestyle with a time of 1:02.20, her second qualifying time for the Worlds.
On the previous night both Rebecca Sharpe and Nick Thomson set new 13-14 Bermuda age group records as they won silver medals in the boys? and girls? 100 metres backstroke.
Thomson swam 1:04.35 in his final while Sharpe?s time could not be immediately confirmed, although she too now has two qualifying times for the Worlds.
Thomson still requires a second qualifying time to book his ticket to Brazil.
Another member of the Bermuda team, the promising Ashley Yearwood, has also reportedly broken age group records in the 11-12 division, although has yet to medal.
More finals at the Carifta meet were scheduled last night.
