North Village 'loss is soccer's gain' - Dill
According to North Village president Sherwin Dill, the appointment of the club's outgoing technical director Kenny Thompson to the new BFA post of director of youth development is not his club's loss, but everyone else's gain.
And while he declined to elaborate on whether or not the services of another technical director was essential in the league champions' continuing development, Dill did say that Thompson's ties would be even closer to Bernard Park now that he had taken on the one of the BFA's top posts.
"In terms of us filling Kenny's vacated post at the club, we are giving due consideration to that and to the need of having a technical director in our programme," he said. "We just need to sit down and map it out with him (Thompson) the details of his new position and how it impacts on his position with us and how we are going to interact.
"Kenny is a well respected person," he added. "He is professional in his attitude, a disciplinarian and comes highly qualified in the field of soccer and education. But more importantly he knows the culture of the country and the affiliated clubs."
Dill acknowledged that Thompson had brought more than just soccer to the fore, as he was also an educator.
"I believe he is an excellent role model and he is the best person for the job, and beside all of that he is a Bermudian.
"I don't really see Kenny's new position with the BFA as a loss to North Village, I actually see it as a gain for the country and the BFA in particular."
He noted how Thompson had left the club in good stead with a thorough blueprint for the future.
"Kenny has left us with a solid foundation at North Village. We have documented mandates as to how we function in terms of our development.
"So with him stepping up to the director of youth development position within the BFA, I still don't feel that he is going to be far from us, because he will also be working along with us on an already mandated programme and he should be working along with the rest of the clubs to improve development throughout the Island."
Dill said he anticipated good things to come from Thompson's new relationship with soccer now that he was at the helm of the Island's junior programme.
"I think that the country is going to do well under his directorship, so I encourage the clubs to lend him their full support and co-operation and I am sure that will see an overall improvement in soccer in this country in a very short time.
"And we at North Village would like to take this opportunity to wish him all the best in his new position as we really feel that he is never going to be to far away from us."
