Coach Kyle rues missed chances
Bermuda?s national squad came within a header of giving coach Kyle Lightbourne a first win on local soil at the National Sports Centre last night.
With the fast surface at the NSC beginning to take its toll on the Jamaican defence, Bermuda skipper Maurice Lowe was denied a chance of glory when he had a powerful late header turned around the post.
Generally, though, Lightbourne was satisfied by his team?s performance.
?I was really hoping for the win tonight. The boys were all up for it but it wasn?t to be,? said Lightbourne. ?I thought we created a few chances towards the end of the game and it was unfortunate we couldn?t capitalise on any of them. We kept piling it on but just couldn?t get the break we sought.
?John (Nusum) gave us a good start tonight but I thought it took some of the other players a bit more time to get themselves in the game.
?Once they did I thought we did fairly good, especially defensively. Keishen (Bean) also had a chance but I thought he snatched at it a bit. But he?s young and I?m sure we are going to see a lot from him in the near future.
?Second half I thought we were the stronger team but unfortunately we tend to play in patches. We can play but it?s now just a matter of getting us to play for the entire 90 minutes.?
Lightbourne?s opposite number, Wendell Downswell, seemed content with his team?s first performance on tour.
?I thought the game was played in an extremely good spirit,? he said. ?This was a very good exercise for us tonight. But based on what we have seen here we still have a lot of work to do. Overall this is a good result for us.?
