Munich flight set to take off in 2006

Bermuda?s first full scheduled flight from Munich which takes to the air in June next year was finalised yesterday.

The agreement between the Ministry of Tourism and Transport, Ewart Brown and Munich Air was signed yesterday and even though there are still six months to go before the first flight to Bermuda, more than 50 percent of seats have been committed to.

Airport General Manager, James Howes yesterday said the full scheduled non-stop flight between main-land Europe and Bermuda was a first and the response so far has been ?excellent?.

The weekly flight, which starts on June 2, 2006, will arrive in Bermuda at 4 p.m. on a Friday, stay overnight, and return to Munich on Saturdays at 7 p.m.

Mr. Howes said the non-stop flight was about eight and a half hours and was all business class.

He said a formal announcement would be made in Germany on January 10, adding that the new flight will be a major selling point at a major tourism trade show in Germany in March next year.

?We are confident that it will be a great success this coming summer,? he said, adding that the flight was also appealing to Bermudians.

?We have been talking to local travel agents,? he said.

Fares will be announced in January, and even though Mr. Howes could not give any further details, he said they would be competitive and in line with business class flights.

He added that once the scheduled flight goes online, tickets can be purchased on the internet.
