Artist doing her part to help rebuild New Orleans
A local artist is donating all proceeds from the sale of her artwork to US charity Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild New Orleans.
Joan Aspinall said she had sold one large painting already from a Reid Street window-display at the former Trimingham's building.
"I don't have thousands of dollars, but I do have a wealth of paintings," Ms Aspinall said.
Tourists normally buy her paintings for $2,000 each, however, she wanted to sell them to residents from $550 to $750.
She encouraged the local artist community to come together to help charities. She said the public could help sick people have a happier Christmas by donating candy to her cause.
"I will provide hand-painted jars and people can bring in candy to put inside," she said. "If they want they can write a Christmas card or note to the Star Foundation to go with it."
Those who wish to donate candy, may call Ms Aspinall on 293-2529.
