Tourism silent on Webb?s criticisms

The Ministry of Tourism has declined to comment on former Minister Renee Webb?s criticism of its policies.

Ms Webb spoke out on Tuesday, saying she found Tourism?s departure from the Elliot Ettenberg report ?disconcerting?.

The Government backbencher also said that Mr. Ettenberg was no longer retained by the Department of Tourism, despite having a further three or four months to his contract.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Tourism would not confirm or deny if Mr. Ettenberg was still working with Government.

?The Ministry declined to comment on Ms Webb?s comments in today?s ?, a Ministry spokeswoman said.

The Ettenberg report called for Government to streamline its Tourism spending and focus on the North American market, a policy which Ms Webb promptly embraced.

?It was working,? she said on Tuesday.

Ms Webb resigned from Cabinet three months ago.

In the Throne Speech Government announced Tourism would once again be expanding its focus to Europe, and Ms Webb?s replacement Ewart Brown said the department would be accepting some of Mr. Ettenberg?s recommendations while rejecting others.

He did not specify which recommendations would be accepted or rejected, however.

Ms Webb explained the move was surprising because the policy was one which had been adopted by Cabinet ? and while there had been a Ministerial change, the Government remained the same.
