Microsoft donates $20,000 to schools damaged by hurricane
Microsoft on Tuesday donated $20,000 for computers and repair work St. George's Preparatory School, which was badly hit during Hurricane Fabian.
The cash will also be used for computer equipment and training at Victor Scott Primary in Pembroke and Purvis Primary in Warwick.
Lionel Sacon, Microsoft's Caribbean regional manager for enterprise and government, handed over the cheque yesterday to Premier Alex Scott and Education Minister Paula Cox.
He said it was part of Microsoft's Unlimited Potential programme which is designed to help adults and young people with lifelong learning and computer training.
Mr. Scott said: "We've had in the aftermath of Hurricane Fabian, many, many willing hands to help us get back to normal.
"It is most appropriate that Microsoft has come to the need not just of Bermuda in general, but of our schools in particular.
"They received a tremendous blow and lost infrastructure and equipment and Microsoft, being a corporate citizen, has responded coming forward with this magnanimous gift."
Mr. Sacon said: "Microsoft believes that providing these technical access and skills training that partnerships with Bermuda can create social and economic opportunities that can change people's lives and transform communities."
