Policeman found dead at his home
A Police officer who was involved in last year?s high-profile $2 million drugs importation trial of Dunkley Dairy?s employee Michael Madeiros has been found dead at his home in Hamilton Parish.
It is thought 33-year-old Police Constable Andrew Woolridge died of natural causes. The married father-of-one was found in an unresponsive state at his home around 10.05 p.m. on Sunday by a member of his family.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by an on-call physician.
In a statement Bermuda Police Service said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the officer, although an autopsy will be performed.
Mr. Woolridge was one of five narcotics officers acquitted by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner last summer after being accused of beating jailed drug importer Madeiros while he was in custody in connection with the importation of $2 million of cannabis to the Island.
ZBMNews reported last night that his death had come hours after he had participated in a backyard football kick-around behind Southampton Post Office with childhood friends.
He had won a ?man of the match? trophy. His young daughter is understood to be just two-years-old.
?On behalf of the Commissioner of Police George Jackson and the entire Bermuda Police Service family, we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of our dear colleague and friend P.c. Andrew Woolridge,? said the Police in a statement yesterday.
