Student shot with pellet gun
A female student was shot on Thursday at CedarBridge Academy and Police said last night a weapon was seized at the school the following day.
The shooting took place the day before Friday?s bomb threat which forced the evacuation of the school and the discoveries of ?explosive materials? last week.
A male CedarBridge student who is alleged to have shot the girl has not yet been arrested or charged by Police. A statement on that could come today, Police said.
?On Thursday, April 27 at around 3 p.m. a CedarBridge Academy male student was found to be in possession of a pellet gun on the grounds of the facility as students were leaving the premises,? a spokesman for the Education Department said yesterday.
?The matter has been referred to the Police and the student has been recommended for expulsion. One female student reported being hit. She was not seriously injured.?
The student was understood to have been shot in the shoulder or arm area.
CedarBridge principal Kalmar Richards was unavailable for comment yesterday.
CedarBridge Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) president Karen Belboda wondered if the student received the gun from an adult and said the shooter?s parents should be held accountable.
?Two of my nephews were blinded by darts,? Mrs. Belboda said. ?Guns have no place in school.
?Out on the street a private citizen would be charged. So the parents of this person have to take the child in hand. What we see there now is a reflection of the times,? she said.
?Parents must come to the plate and set standards at home because the administration and Government can only do so much.?
