Woman fined for littering
A young woman who refused to pick up a bottle she had broken because she was "irritated" after "a fight with a girl" was fined $100 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
The court heard that 19-year-old Tiara Tushae Rogers was arrested on Saturday after Police saw her smash the beer bottle on the ground after leaving the Ozone nightclub on Front Street at around 3 a.m.
Crown counsel Nicole Smith said Police approached Rogers, of Friswells Road, Pembroke, and informed her that littering was an offence, to which she replied: "I am irritated right now. I have just been in a fight with a girl."
Police then informed her that she would be arrested if she did not pick up the pieces of glass. She replied:"Well you better arrest me then, because I am not picking it up."
The woman was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station. She told the court yesterday that she did not pick up the glass because there was no dust pan and broom.
