Allan Douglas smashed 69 off just 34 balls as St George’s made it two straight wins in the Twenty20 League with a nine wicket victory over Willow Cuts at Wellington Oval yesterday.

In the last match at Wellington Oval before this week’s Cup Match classic, the host club handed their visitors from the west end a convincing defeat after restricting them to 122 for seven in their 20 overs and then replying with 125 for one in just nine overs.

Douglas was in a brutal mood as he dominated an opening stand of 87 with Temiko Wilson in just 6.2 overs. After Wilson was the only wicket to fall, for 19, Douglas carried on to reach 69 not out with 58 of his 69 runs coming in boundaries as he hit five sixes and seven fours to win the game with eleven overs to spare.

Oronde Bascome was the other not out batsman, on 14.

Earlier, Cuts were led in their batting by Dean Stevens who scored 47 off 37 balls, hitting three sixes and five fours, while captain Kwasi James added 28 from 29 balls and veteran Dwight Basden scored 19.

Nzari Paynter led the St George’s bowling with three for 24 from four overs while Isaiah Greaves, who will be a colt in Cup Match later this week, weighed in with two for 17 off four overs of left-arm spin. Douglas also took two for 14 from four overs as Cuts recovered from four for two to 79 for three by the twenfth over with a useful third wicket partnership between James and Stevens which brought 75 runs.

However, when Greaves bowled James, the home club turned the table as three more wickets went down in just three overs to have Cuts 98 for six in the 15th over. They added just 24 runs in their last five overs.

• In the First Division match at Wellington Oval, Cleveland beat their Eastern Counties rivals Flatts by 55 runs.

Cleveland scored 172 for two and restricted Flatts to 107 for six when their overs ran out. High man for Cleveland was Bryce Daniels with 74 from 50 balls, with four sixes and eight fours, while Mackih McGowan added 40 off 18 balls with six fours and two sixes and Q’Shai Darrell 36.

Flatts were led by Reginald Baker’s 41 from seven fours and a six while Regino Smith added 25 as Dennis Musson claimed three for ten from two overs.
