Hood back to winning ways
League champions Robin Hood quickly returned to winning ways during last weekend's penultimate round of matches against a Cable & Wireless team embroiled in a desperate battle to avoid relegation.
Just a week after suffering their second loss of the season to Vasco Mariners - the division's other team fighting for survival - Hood bounced back in style to defeat their Devonshire rivals 4-0.
Top marksman Alan Mooney, Oliver Caruso, Jarlath McCabe and Donnacha Smyth all found the target for the reigning league champions.
Currently lying in second place, Key West Rangers continued to jockey for runners-up honours.
Rangers certainly had a huge appetite over the weekend, as they managed to outscore Lobster Pot 7-3 during a ten goal feast. Richard Wilson, Mitchell Raynor, Ricky Mallory, substitute Chad Brimmer, Berwin Thomas and Armell Thomas (two), all featured on the scoresheet for Rangers, while Paul Iain, Saleem Mukuddem and Martin McHugh replied for Pot.
At BAA Field, North Village Rams hammered a few nails into Vasco Mariners' coffin with a 4-0 drubbing.
Kenny Thompson opened the scoring for the visitors in the 35th minute with the first of two well taken goals. Maceo Dill made it 2-0 five minutes later.
Thompson added to his team's tally midway through the second half before Rams' `keeper George Hayward got amongst the action, converting from the penalty spot as Mariners remain hopelessly adrift without a paddle.
Third placed MR Onions had an easy outing against relegated PHC Raiders - or at least a better time than PHC's Jack Castle, a former Regimental Sergeant Major, who received his own marching orders as early as the 25th minute for of all things dissent!
On this occasion Onions took hold of their opponents during a 6-2 win. Two goals apiece from Steven Smith and Richard Helm, followed by further strikes by substitute Andy Robinson and Keith Donald were more than enough to get the job done. PHC replied through Chris Furbert and Ronald Simmons.
At Wellington Oval, BAA Wanderers defeated Tuff Dogs 3-1. Two goals via the boot of Martin Jones and a sole strike by Jahmall Mills put paid to their hosts. Jeff Franklin scored his team's consolation in the first half.
In the `B' Division, despite suffering a traumatic 8-1 drubbing at the hands of neighbouring Dockyard Falcons, Prison Officers still managed to hold onto second place. Junior DeSilva scored five of his team's goals, while Chris Gibbons, Blake Outerbridge and Lee Correia also contributed to the rout.
Prospect/Fire kept up the heat after their 6-2 win over a toothless Wolves Pack. Dean Martin led his team's onslaught with a hat-trick, while Darren Rathbrand, Brian Paul and James Walters each grabbed a goal. Horace Landy and an David Kinnersley own goal attributed to Wolves' tally.
Devonshire Allstars edged Valley 3-2. Michael Looby emerged as Allstars' hero with a well taken hat-trick, while Earl Pringle and Troy Simmons tallied for Valley.
Somerset Extros muted league champions St. George's Allstars' celebrations in a 2-2 draw at Somerset Cricket Club. Former Southampton Rangers' stalwart Edgar Smith and Everette Wellman scored for the home team, while Milton Jones and Jamie Robinson rallied to the call for the east enders.
