A charitable club has made cash donations to three nursing homes as part of its public service work.

Marlene Christopher, the first vice-president and past president of Hamilton Lions Club, said Lions Club International had a tradition of using a day in October for public service.

She added that Hamilton Lions had traditionally focused on seniors.

Ms Christopher said: “We have in the past entertained the residents of our island’s rest homes at a special lunch or high tea, along with entertainment and gifts.”

But she added that the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions had “severely curtailed” contact with seniors.

Ms Christopher said: “The Hamilton Lions Club therefore decided this year to provide a few selected rest homes with some funds to enable them to purchase supplies required for the care and comfort of their residents.”

Serenity Gardens Nursing Home in Warwick, Serenity Palms Nursing Home in Devonshire and Sunny Vale Nursing Home in Paget were given $500 each.
