Rotarians in St George’s collected toys for children during their Christmas dinner and toy event last week.

The toy collection, which has gone on for almost 50 years, helps the Salvation Army through the collection of gifts.

The gifts were picked from a list provided by the Salvation Army and handed over on December 13.

The toy handover was followed by a Christmas dinner for members of the Rotary Club and Salvation Army Captain Elizabeth Knight.

Andrew Roberts, the president of St George’s Rotary, said that a newspaper clipping from 1962 that detailed one of its first toy collections highlighted how long the club had been involved in the Christmas appeal.

He added: “I must say we are all proud to be a part of such and organisation as Rotary.”
