Lambe on target in big win for title-chasing Stowmarket Town

Leading the charge: Reggie Lambe opened the scoring in Stowmarket Town’s 4-0 win over bottom side Romford at Greens Meadow on Saturday.

Reggie Lambe got on the score sheet as he and his Stowmarket Town team-mates stepped up their title bid with a 4-0 thrashing of bottom team Romford in the Isthmian League North on Saturday.

The Bermuda international opened the scoring for the home side at Greens Meadow with a simple tap-in just before the break.

Striker Josh Mayhew doubled Stowmarket’s advantage in the 53rd minute with a shot from outside of the box.

Ollie Brown, the Stowmarket captain, made the points safe when he converted from close range two minutes later, before fellow defender Kane Munday curled in a free kick in the 90th minute to cap the hosts’ dominant display in front of their own fans.

The win was Stowmarket’s fourth in their last five league outings, which took them level on points with Aveley at the top of the standings with a game in hand.

Lambe’s compatriot and Bermuda team-mate, Willie Clemons, has not featured in manager Paul Musgrove’s squad for their last two fixtures against Hullbridge and Romford, having been sent off in a 3-1 win away to AFC Sudbury on January 29.

Clemons, who had been in sparkling form going in the match, having scored in each of his team’s previous three outings in league and cup action, was shown a straight red in stoppage time for dissent in a heated Suffolk Derby, at MEL Stadium.

It remains to be seen whether the winger will be included in Musgrove’s team for their second round Suffolk Premier Cup commitment against Ipswich Town at Greens Meadow on Tuesday.
