Stuart Trott, 40, of Southampton, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons and was fined $350.

The Magistrate said recent law changes meant she was no longer obliged to disqualify Trott's licence, but she warned him he was on the border line.

Normally, she suspended a licence for one month for every kilometre above 62 kilometres a motorist was driving, she told Trott.

But she noted that Trott's car was the only way he had to get to work at Casemates, and losing his licence would "seriously jeopardise his employment.'' Trott told the Magistrate he was rushing to get to a training class when caught by Police on June 28 on South Road in Southampton.

"It was very silly of me,'' he said. "I realised it afterward. I'm very remorseful for it.'' He was rushing to make a class after receiving a telephone call from the officer in charge of training, he said.

Ms Simmons said Trott should tell the training officer "he owes you $350.''
