Two face charges over Revolve raft-up party

Reggae artist Shaggy has been named in a charge against two other people in connection with alleged breaches of Covid-19 rules last summer.

Cindy Clarke, the Director of Public Prosecutions, said that prosecution was approved against Matthew Strong and Selange Gitschner.

She added that there were two counts, both related to alleged offences on June 8 last year.

It will be alleged that the defendants “aided, counselled and procured Orville Burrell”, whose stage name is Shaggy, to breach one of the Covid-19 rules “in that he, having travelled to Bermuda on June 8, 2021, did not quarantine until he received his negative Covid-19 result”.

The second count will allege that they “failed to take all reasonable steps … to maintain appropriate physical distancing by not wearing a mask when one is required“ - also against Covid-19 regulations.

The charges followed a raft-up involving dozens of social media influencers brought to the island by US fashion brand Revolve.

Ms Clarke said that the case was expected to be called in Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. There are no charges against Mr Burrell.
