First Prev 1 2 Next Last

An international expert will lead discussion on a top concern facing businesses worldwide as a panellist and keynote speaker at the annual general meeting of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce.

Kristine Remedios is the head of global inclusion and diversity for professional services firm KPMG.

The chamber said the topic of discussion would be diversity, equity and inclusion, a critical part of the growing focus on environmental, social and governance.

Ms Remedios will be joined on the panel by Marlon Williams of Hiscox Re & ILS, and Michael Hanson, managing partner of Carey Olsen Bermuda.

Ms Remedios is responsible for leading the inclusion and diversity agenda across her organisation in 146 countries and territories, and spearheading the implementation of KPMG’s collective action plan, a set of practical steps KPMG firms will take to tackle injustice and inequality.

Before that, she was KPMG in Canada’s chief inclusion and social impact officer, where her vision and strategy was successful in leveraging the firm’s diversity for broader economic and social inclusion in the Canadian marketplace and communities.

The AGM will take place virtually via Zoom on April 20, from 10.15am until 10.45am and is open only to all current members.

A virtual “Panel Discussion” will follow, running from 11am until 12.30pm and is open to both members and non-members of the chamber.

The cost to attend the panel discussion is $25 for individual members and $250 for member watch parties. Non-member prices are $50 for individuals and $500 for non-member watch parties.

Kendaree Burgess, chief executive officer of the chamber, said: “The topic of diversity, equity and inclusion is perhaps one of the top three concerns facing businesses worldwide.

“I am looking forward to moderating an insightful and engaging session, where we will look at the data on the Bermuda market and dig deeper into what can be done to improve outcomes.”

Ms Remedios said: “This topic of DEI is close to me and I am delighted to be speaking at the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming AGM.

“Looking ahead, my hope is that every single person around the world can act as allies to one another and feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work.

“Because that’s when people can truly shine and, in turn, bring excitement, innovation and passion to our colleagues, clients and communities.”
