American golfer Wesley Bryan to donate $100 for every birdie at Port Royal

Helping hand: PGA Tour player Wesley Bryan has committed to donating $100 to the Butterfield Bermuda Championship Birdies for Charity Programme every time he makes a birdie throughout the tournament at Port Royal Golf Course

PGA Tour player Wesley Bryan has committed to donating $100 to the Butterfield Bermuda Championship Birdies for Charity Programme every time he makes a birdie at Port Royal Golf Course this week.

Bryan, who made his Bermuda Championship debut in 2020, earned the first PGA Tour victory of his career with a win in the 2017 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina, edging out Luke Donald by one shot to take the title.

Organisers of the championship, which starts tomorrow and runs until Sunday, will be aiming to exceed the fundraising total of $646,792 from last year.

Those hoping to support Bermuda's local charities can see their donations go further through the Birdies for Charity programme on the tournament website. Every contribution of any amount will be matched up to ten per cent of the donation value by the fundraising initiative.

The Birdies for Charity programme, established by the PGA Tour in 1971, is an integral part of many official tournaments and helps to raise millions of dollars for the host communities.

Local charities participating in the Birdies for Charity programme can be found on the tournament website. When processing an online donation, a drop down of registered charities will appear. Multiple donations to multiple charities can be made in one transaction.

The tournament is also running a giveaway competition, with the person who makes the largest donation to the Birdies for Charity Programme throughout tournament week receiving a diamond and tanzanite necklace from Diamonds International Bermuda.

• Charities that wish to get involved in the programme can email Community Outreach Manager, Dede Cooper at dede@butterfieldbdachampionship.com.
