Father and son Allan DeGraff and A’jahni Foggo ushered in the new year with a bang at Bermuda Motorsports Park in Southside, St David’s, on Monday.

It proved to be a truly memorable occasion for both riders who clinched the titles in the Expert and 65cc classes in the Bermuda Motocross Association Boxing Day and New Year’s Day Trophy Race Series.

“We are the only father and son out there winning,” said an elated DeGraff. “It’s a lot of hard work we put in and it’s very special to see him and I winning.”

Ten-year-old Francis Patton School student A’jahni was equally as thrilled to see he and his father enjoy success.

“I actually thought it was very nice for my daddy to win on the same day as me,” he said. “It was a good race day and I am happy to see him winning. It felt very good because he trains me and it’s nice for us to win on the same day. I really look up to him.”

DeGraff is delighted that his son is developing a similar passion for motocross.

“It’s nice to see my son following in my footsteps,” he added. “He has been cleaning up and winning the 65cc and 50cc classes the last two years.”

Both riders have made their presence felt throughout the season to thrust themselves firmly in the hunt for the overall championship in their respective classes.

“Right now we are both leading the standings in the 65cc and Expert classes,” DeGraff said.

A’jahni has a bright future ahead of after holding his own when competing internationa;ly at the Mini-Os in Florida two years ago.

“It was a great experience and I qualified for two of my four main events out of-100 plus children,” he said. “Only 40 can make the gate, so I was very happy just to qualify. Hopefully I can go this year to see if I can improve on my last results.”
