Furbert’s three trips to US cost more than $5,500
Wayne Furbert, the Minister of Transport, racked up more than $5,500 in travel expenses for three trips to the United States last month.
According to the Government’s website, Mr Furbert made a flying visit to Miami on December 5 for talks with cruise line operators.
Accompanied by a transport planning team liaison officer, Mr Furbert met executives from three cruise operators before returning to Bermuda on the following day. The trip cost the taxpayer $1,238.10.
Mr Furbert later described the talks as “very productive”.
Two days later, Mr Furbert was off-island again for a three-day visit to New York, where he met airline representatives to discuss increasing airlift to Bermuda. The chief executive officer of the Bermuda Airport Authority also attended the meetings. The cost of that trip was $1,959.95.
Mr Furbert was in New York again on December 19 for a second round of talks with airline chiefs, this time accompanied by members of the air service development committee. The bill for the three-day excursion was $2,341.05.
