The Waste Management Section of the Ministry of Public Works will hold its second e-waste recycling day on Saturday.

Residents are encouraged to take their old, worn out electronics to be recycled at the Tynes Bay Waste to Energy Facility on Palmetto Road, Devonshire, from 9am to 5pm.

According to a press release, everything from small appliances powered by batteries or a power-cord, to equipment containing circuit boards, will be accepted.

Examples include:

• hairdryers

• household air conditioners

• monitors

• televisions

• cathode ray tubes

• computer processing units

• keyboards

• telephones

• cellphones.

Waste Management exports container-loads of recycling to the US recyclables market and reuses crushed glass in local construction projects.

Exported container-loads of recycling comprise air conditioners, vehicle batteries, steel cans, aluminium cans, motor oil, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, household batteries as well as e-waste. All recyclable materials, including e-Waste, are sent to United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved recycling facilities to ensure they are handled with strict concern for the environment and worker safety.
