Somerset Cricket Club (Somerset won toss): Somerset (10pts) beat Willow Cuts by 188 runsKamau Leverock guided Somerset to their first Twenty20 Premier Division victory of the season after his show-stopping knock of 119 inspired a 118-run victory over Willow Cuts yesterday.Having made his club debut in a 38-run defeat against Southampton Rangers last week, in which he scored 24, the all-rounder came to the fore to showcase his undoubted pedigree with a monumental innings which included ten sixes and 11 fours as the opener finished up with 119 runs from just 42 balls.Having taken it upon himself to inspire victory, Leverock, who was supported impressively by captain Jordan DeSilva (58 not out) and Dalin Richardson (56) helped his side set a staggering total of 283 for five from their allotted overs, a target that was always going to prove insurmountable for Willow Cuts in reply.“It was good to get back into the groove of things,” said Leverock. “The wicket was playing nicely and all I really needed to do was keep hitting through the ball.“It was great to get that first victory of the season. That first victory is always important. Now we have that the whole squad won’t want to lose again.“Setting such a big target was great. Our top order is capable of scoring runs quickly and if that top order can set decent totals then we also have a great bowling line-up it gives us a chance to defend those big totals.“Once you effectively bat teams out of the game they get deflated, it makes it that much easier to get stuck into them in the first few overs. However, we still had to remain focused to get the job finished and bowl strongly.”With Somerset electing to bat, Leverock signalled his intent from the off, racing to 75 runs before the end of the fifth over, including some spectacular shots before his fellow opener Chris Douglas (5) departed shortly after with the score at 80 for one.Alje Richardson (6) joined Leverock at the crease as Somerset ticked past 100 runs with only seven overs played, before the former was dismissed off the bowling of Antonio Darrell an over later. However, Leverock continued to punish the Willow Cuts bowlers, particularly Kevon Fubler, who endured a forgettable return to action having served a four-year ban from the game. His return proved costly for Cuts, with Fubler giving up 75 runs from his total of four overs bowled.Leverock completed his century from just 31 balls, before his masterful display was finally ended during the twelfth over, caught off the bowling off Kwasi James with the score at 154 for three. However, Cuts misery was far from over as DeSilva and Richardson both also racked up half-centuries before the latter fell at the end of the nineteenth over, with Fubler securing the slight vindication of a wicket on his return.Amari Ebbin failed to make any real contribution, falling the very next ball, trapped leg before by Faheem Swan, with Jerze Eve (9 not out) batting out the remaining deliveries to help Somerset set a total of 277 for five. To compound Cuts woes they were also penalised a further six runs for a slow over rate, leaving them with a revised target of 284 for victory. In reality a successful chase down of the target always appeared inconceivable and so it inevitably proved. To their credit, Willow Cuts batted out until the seventeenth over, reaching 95 for nine, with Fubler failing to recover from an injury suffered while fielding and thus being absent from the batting order.Sergio Raynor (22) proved the pick of their batsmen with Antonio Darrell (18), Kamal Bashir (10) and Micah Simons (10) the only other players to reach double figures as Cuts fell way short of their target. For Somerset, Greg Maybury was the standout bowler with three wickets, with Chris Douglas claiming two, and Jade Morrissey, Dalin Richardson, Isiah Richardson and man-of-the-match Leverock all claiming one apiece on a promising afternoon for the club.SomersetK Leverock c Bashir b James 119C Douglas run out 5A Richardson b Darrell 6*J DeSilva not out 58D Richardson c Swan b Fubler 56†A Ebbin lbw b Swan 0J Eve not out 9Extras (b 1, lb 2, w 15, nb 6, pen 6) 30Total (5 wkst; 20 overs) 283I Richardson, J Morrisey, J Proctor did not batFall of wicket: 1-80, 2-138, 3-154, 4-268, 5-268Bowling: Simons 4-0-61-0; James 4-0-54-1; Bashir 3-0-54-0; Fubler 4-0-75-1; Darrell 4-0-41-1; Swan 1-0-9-1Willow CutsS Burrows b Leverock 0K James c Morrisey b Maybury 4S Raynor c D Richardson b I Richardson 22†S Bean c Morrisey b Maybury 5*K Bashir c Ebbin b Maybury 0A Darrell st Ebbin b Morrisey 18T Forth b D Richardson 1M Simons c Ebbin b Douglas 10Swan not out 3K Fubler absent Extras (b 1 w 21) 22Total (16.4 overs) 95Fall of wickets: 1-1, 2-26, 3-41, 4-41, 5-41, 6-66, 7-79, 8-90, 9-95Bowling: Leverock 2-0-14-1; Proctor 2-0-11-0; Maybury 2-0-7-3; I Richardson 3-1-12-1; Douglas 4-0-35-2; D Richardson 3-0-13-1; Morrisey 0.4-0-2-1
