A battling performance by Bermudian bowler David Maycock in the men's singles was not enough to book his place in the quarter-final round at the Pan-Am Games.

USA's Cassidy Schaub beat Maycock with the Islander scoring 569 to his opponents 678 in three games at the Barra Bowling lanes yesterday.

He had progressed to the eight finals by finishing an impressive ninth out of 32 performers in the qualifiers on Wednesday. Fellow Bermudian Kevin Swan had finished in last place.
