Rum day for eight-storey condo complex
Almost exactly a year to the day that the first piles were positioned at the start of construction of an eight-storey condominium complex on Dundonald Street, a roof wetting ceremony has been conducted to show that it will be “job done” before the end of the year.
It is the second complex created by Gilbert Lopes, who started out with an idea of eventually erecting three such condo complexes.
His first was the Boutique Condominiums next to the Olympic Club further along the same street.
If all goes to plan the second complex, at 6 Dundonald Street, will be completed possibly by the end of September but definitely by the end of the year.
The speed of the construction job has been remarkable. The first concept of the project was two years ago, but physical work did not start until 12 months ago. Now the elevation is complete and work has started to fit out the interiors of the 52 condominiums that are priced between $625,000 and $1.6 million.
Already 41 of the units have been sold.
The units range from one-bedroom up to a penthouse with commanding views across to City Hall and beyond.
G.L. Construction boss Mr. Lopes poured finest Gosling Rum on the roof of the building watched by key players in helping to get the complex from the conceptual stage to near completion. It brings much needed urban living space to the heart of Hamilton.
Architects for the project were s.h.y. Architecture. The design of the building has some similar touches to the Boutique Condominiums nearby.
The condominiums come in various sizes and configurations including a junior one-bedroom that measures 600 sq ft to a two-bedroom suite with den at 1,766 sq ft, and an outdoor balcony terrace of 242 sq ft.
