Auditing scholarships offered to Bermudians
And for successful candidates who are awarded one of two newly created $2,500 scholarships the path leading towards a career in a sector that has a high demand for qualified professionals and currently is rarely able to find a local to fill the many available positions.
The scholarships to help Bermudians gain certifications in the areas of general internal audit, financial services internal audit and government auditing, have been announced by the Institute of Internal Auditors Bermuda Chapter.
Each of the scholarships provides up to $2,500 to assist candidates with study material, examination fees and the preparatory courses.
And there is no need for a Bermudian to leave the Island to obtain the internationally recognised Certified Internal Auditor status. Other designations available are the Certified Government Auditing Professional, and Certified Financial Services Auditor, these do not require the candidate to be a qualified accountant.
However, those applying for the scholarships must have a four-year bachelor degree or equivalent. While some programmes require work experience before the examination, with the CIA the experience can be gained after the examination. All candidates must exhibit high moral and professional character.
“The internal auditing profession represents an excellent opportunity for Bermudians as many of the current positions are filled by work permit holders, and the demand for internal audit professionals is rarely filed by local candidates,” states the Bermuda chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
