Village still to find Adams replacement
Premier Division side North Village have yet to name a successor for coach Dwayne Adams.
Club president Shervin Dill told The Royal Gazette yesterday that no replacement would be named before management had conducted their post-mortem for the season.
Adams resigned last month after the perennial powerhouse came up empty handed a year after capturing a first triple crown (League, FA Cup and Friendship Trophy) in nearly three decades.
“I can’t provide any details at the moment because we haven’t really closed off with Dwayne (Adams) and Maceo (assistant coach Maceo Dill). I’m still waiting on official documentation and have yet to talk with management about what our next step will be,” Dill said.
Adams is now rumoured to be heading back for a second playing stint with First Division Southampton Rangers.
His services, Dill said, would be missed at Bernard Park.
“I wish Dwayne all of the best because he has done us a great service. But he also has other decisions to make with his life,” the Village boss added.
For the first time in several seasons Village failed to win any silverware. The Reds lost their grip on the Charity Cup, Friendship Trophy, FA Cup and were pipped at the very end for the league championship by Devonshire Cougars.
“We did have high expectations and it was a difficult end for us. Things just fell apart for us at the end of the season,” Dill said.
Injuries to key players Kentoine, Keith and Jemeiko Jennings and Keishen Bean didn’t help the club’s cause.
“We were able to overcome that, but Kentoine was a miss at the end of the season when it came to crunch time,” Dill said. “Quite honestly we were still within grasp of finishing off on a high note. But losses to Cougars (in the league) and St.George’s (FA Cup quarter-final) were a great disappointment.”
Having surrendered their league title to the Big Cats, Village’s season then went from bad to worse when First Division St.George’s Colts ousted the defending champions from the FA Cup. It was the Reds’ first home defeat in two seasons.
Still, Dill is confident his club can rebound from the past season’s disappointments.
“I think we have learned from those experiences,” he said. “And I do hope that we can regroup and move forward.”
Meanwhile, it is understood that Bermuda Hogges’ coach Kyle Lightbourne has indicated to club management that he intends to continue coaching at PHC Zebras next season.
“Kyle has expressed an interest and we would like to see him stay as coach. But we haven’t had the time to sit down and discuss the past season and some of the things he would like to see come to fruition moving forward,” PHC sports chairman and Bermuda youth coach Mark Wade said.
