Governor appoints Assistant Justices
Two new Assistant Justices have been appointed by Governor George Fergusson following consultation with Chief Justice Ian Kawaley.Appleby partner John Riihiluoma and Narinder Hargun, a partner at Conyers Dill and Pearman, “will sit from time to time in civil and commercial cases over an initial period of one year”, said a Government House spokeswoman. The appointments carry nominal sitting fees. The spokeswoman added: “Their selection will, in the short term, strengthen the resources of Bermuda’s Commercial Court and the civil jurisdiction as a whole.“It is hoped that similar appointments on a regular basis will encourage senior practitioners to take up permanent judicial appointments in the future and consolidate the long-term stability of Bermuda’s Judiciary.”
