Seniors enjoy tour of Gardens

Seniors enjoyed a tour of the Botanical Gardens accompanied by the Minister of the Environment yesterday.

Members of the Seniors Learning Centre Club also enjoyed a leisurely lunch among the natural beauty of Bermuda’s flowers and plants.

It is the second year Minister Neletha Butterfield has hosted the Club at the Gardens.

Ms Butterfield said: “Providing tours of the Botanical Gardens is a valuable service, and I especially appreciate the insight that our seniors offer on Bermuda’s past and current horticultural heritage.

“It gives me great pleasure to join with many of Bermuda’s seniors to celebrate the beautiful gardens that have been enjoyed by so many people during the past hundred years. The Department of Parks has worked very hard to not only improve the park with new gardens and displays, but also to recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Fabian in 2004.”

The Bermuda College Seniors Learning Centre Club was founded in 1990 and is a non-profit organisation open to anyone over the age of 55. Membership currently runs at 800.

Housed in the Bermuda College South Hall, classes are conducted daily on campus in the spring and fall semesters. Courses include yoga, scrabble, bridge, keep fit, salsa dancing, arts and crafts, computer skills, Spanish and French. The Club makes regular day trips throughout the year, visiting such attractions as the Commissioners House, National Gallery and Bermuda Weather Station.
