Swiss treat for Under-14s
A 12-strong national Under-14 football squad will travel to Switzerland later this month to participate in a specially arranged youth tournament which coincides with this year’s FIFA Congress in Zurich.
Bermuda were selected along with five other nations from the six confederations of FIFA to participate in the event, which will be played on their new state-of-the-art artificial surface on May 29.
The team, coached by Troy Lewis and Winston Trott jr, will play San Marino, Bolivia, South Africa, Bahrain and Papua New Guinea in seven versus seven matches of 20 minutes each — with the top two teams in the group going on to compete in the final.
“We are very excited that our players will get to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit FIFA headquarters on such a wonderful occasion,” said Bermuda Football Association president Larry Mussenden.
“Equally, they will get the opportunity to play against and learn about youth teams that are not in our region and whom they would not get the chance to compete against under normal circumstances. Please join with us in wishing them all the best as the represent Bermuda and the Concacaf region on the world stage.”
