Girls top of podium
Bermuda’a gymnastics team scooped gold in a recent competition on the Isle of Man.
The five-strong team consisting of Hannah King, 15, Caitlyn Mello, 15, Kaisey Griffith, 14, Riann Ming, 14 and Catherine Araujo, 14, competed brilliantly on floor and vault to finish in gold medal position with 101.018 points. Second place went to Isle of Man with 100.584 and third were the Faroe Islands with 100.135.
It was an extreamly close competition with tenths of a point separating the medallists.
Coaches Tina Williams and Michelle Strenk were extremely proud of the girls and said they were focused and worked hard to achieve their goal. It is the first time the Bermuda gymnastics team has won first place in the team competition.
The five-strong junior girls also had a good showing. Morgan Beckles, 12, Rosie Finnigan, 11 Taylor Cleave, 11, Rebecca Forgesson, 12, and Amber lopes 11, finished in second place beating Jersey, but falling short of topping the strong Isle of Man team.
The girls are now preparing and focusing for the next competition where the team will compete in all four disciplines.
