It goes without saying how important the engagement ring and wedding bands are to the bride and groom.

What many of us may not be considering is how important the rest of the bridal jewellery is, from necklaces that match the cut of the bride’s dress, to what sort of jewellery your mother-in-law should wear.

The jewellers at E R Aubrey’s have compiled a special guide on bridal jewellery, to help take some of the guess work out of preparing for your special day.

Jewellery to compliment your gown

If you are going with the traditional white on your wedding day, you may consider wearing blue sapphires, red rubies, or even pink sapphires to accent your gown.

If you choose a simple dress then you can use bigger, bolder jewellery, and coloured stones to make your ensemble look fabulous.

When you select the type and length of your necklace and earrings, make sure they complement the neckline of your dress.

V-Neck Dresses<$>

The necklace should fall about halfway between the base of the neck and the point of the V.

Strapless Dresses

Chokers or close fitting necklaces show of your shoulders best.

You can generally choose simple and understated earrings if you have a bold necklace and vice versa. If you have a simple neckline, consider chandelier earrings.

Glamourous Weddings

You can get away with bolder and perhaps, glitzier wedding jewellery and accessories at large, black tie, or evening weddings. Try a larger diamond look with a cubic zirconia necklace set in silver or some chandelier earrings.

Simple Elegance Weddings<$>

If you have romance in mind, simple vintage jewellery may be what you want. Heart lockets or fancy brooches can help you create an antique feel. To create an elegant, timeless look try a simple strand of pearls or diamond studs.

Cultural Weddings

Different traditions and customs can greatly influence your bridal jewellery. From 18 carat to 22 carat pieces for Indian affairs, Claddaugh and Celtic designs for the Irish, to jade, the symbol of good luck, health, and prosperity in Asian weddings.

Beach Weddings<$>

A simple strand of pearls and some flowers in your hair can set the tone for an early afternoon ceremony on the beach. Your bridesmaids can also wear heart charms on ankle bracelets.

Bridesmaid Jewellery<$>

Pearls, gold locket, heart necklace, circle of love pendant, ankle chain, hair comb, rhinestone or cubic zirconia set, brooch, vintage earrings

Groomsmen Jewellery

Cufflinks, money clip, tie pin, pocket watch

Mother of the Bride/Groom
