Woman sentenced to attend DUI court

A woman who was stopped by police in Paget has been ordered to participate in a drink-driver’s court treatment programme.

Nancy Mota, 40, from St George’s, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that last month, officers stopped Mota on South Road, because her front bike light was off.

When speaking to her, police saw that her eyes were red and smelt alcohol on her breath and took her to the Hamilton Police Station as a result.

A breath test revealed more than 152 milligrams of alcohol within 100 millilitres of her blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that Mota participate in DUI Court, beginning on May 23, and released her on $1,500 bail until that time.

Mota was also disqualified from driving all vehicles until further notice.
