Bringing art to dinner table

Jonah Jones and Chris Marson are ready for their upcoming show.

The culinary arts will meet the fine arts tonight as Elbow Beach hotel launches its new ‘Taste of Art’ series.

The hotel has teamed with the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard for the series — which will see the works of local arts displayed and sold in the Seahorse Grill, which will be offering a special four-course menu high on artistic appeal.

The series will launch tonight with a wine reception, where invitees can meet the artists and view the artwork.

The four main visual artists on feature will be Lynn Morrell (jewellery, textiles and mixed media), Angela Gentleman (oils), Christopher Marson (water-colourist) and Rhona Emmerson (oils on canvas).

Seahorse Grill’s chef de cuisine Terence Clark has worked up a menu to stimulate the taste buds as the artists stimulate the eyes.

“The Taste of Art menu will take guests through a journey from the artists’ palettes to their own palates,” said a press release from the hotel.

“Sumptuous culinary arts such as Seared Yellow Fin Tuna Sashimi with Roulade of Cured Foie Gras, Beef Short Rib, Braised Red Cabbage, Wheel of Truffled Bread and Butter Pudding and a Collage of Citrus are just the beginning of some of the mouth-watering dishes on offer.”

The Taste of Art menu will be available from this evening until April 30 for $55 plus gratuities.

Elbow director of operations Donald Bowman said of the series: “It is a tremendous introduction of the work of local artists to our hotel guests. Not only are we able to support the local art community, we can expose art lovers and visitors alike to another medium, culinary art.”

“The Seahorse Grill is the perfect backdrop for our series of local landscapes,” added Jonah Jones, director of the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard.

“The mediums range from watercolours to acrylics and even to quilting.

“We have a wealth of artistic talent locally and we are delighted to partner with Elbow Beach, Bermuda to bring exposure to our artists.”
