Convicted murderer charged with attacking fellow inmate
A man currently serving a sentence for double murder has been charged with attacking a fellow prisoner, also convicted of double murder, inside Westgate prison.
Yesterday in Magistrates’ Court, Kenneth Burgess, 35, and Kamal Trott, 30, of Kitty Lane, Hamilton Parish were charged with assaulting Dennis Alma Robinson with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawfully wounding him on June 6. The two men were not required to enter pleas as the charges are indictable and must be heard in Supreme Court.
Senior Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney said the defendants allegedly went into the Westgate cell of Robinson and attacked him.
Mr. Mahoney alleged the men “proceeded to punch him mercilessly” and that Burgess was blaming Robinson for his own incarceration.
Trott had also been serving a sentence in Westgate at the time of the alleged attack, however, he was arrested on this charge shortly after his release.
As a result of the attack, Robinson was admitted to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for various injuries including a ruptured eardrum.
He is expected to remain in the hospital for the next few weeks.
Trott was remanded in custody until July 2 when the pair will appear in court for mention.
