Delight for West End diners as 'Henry's' re-opens
With the reopening of Henry VIII last Thursday, West End diners have a lot to cheer about.
The South Shore Road establishment, which first opened 35 years ago, was closed in January of this year when a fire destroyed the eatery’s kitchen. However, the restaurant is looking forward to new successes, especially with head chef, Nozino Fernandez.
The Goa, India native was recently promoted from second chef to head chef, and has lots of new ideas planned, especially for the restaurants nightly specials.
Well known for its fine dining, Henry’s is open daily, offering lunch Monday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 2.30 p.m., and dinner from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. It also offers a delightful brunch on Sundays between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., at a set rate of $28.50 plus gratuity ($15 for under 12 years of age), and Sunday dinner from 6.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Sunday brunches feature salads, appetisers, cold meats, carved meats, a selection of hot dishes and vegetables, a cheese board and a wide selection of desserts.
However, with seemingly limited dining in the western parishes, the restaurant has decided to add to its repertoire.
“With Wyndham being closed down, we’ve added casual food in the bar area,” explained John Ferris, the restaurant’s managing director.
The menu, which is available through the night until 10 p.m., includes several local and pub-style favourites, including salads, sandwiches, nachos and even the Katherine Howard Curry.
There is also a late-night menu, perfect to fill the late-night munchies, including French fries, potato wedges, hot and spicy chicken wings and other finger favourites.
Assistant manager, Jane Staines, who has worked at Henry’s for the last 22 years since arriving in Bermuda from her native Birmingham, England, is delighted with the expanding restaurant.
“We have a beautiful establishment and a friendly atmosphere at affordable prices. There’s good food and good wine, too,” she said.
