Former KBB executive director denies stealing $42,000 from charity
The former executive director of Keep Bermuda Beautiful, who is accused of stealing more than $40,000, denied all charges at an Arraignments hearing.
Lennox Boodram, 46, of Random Lane, Warwick, denies stealing $42,050 from the charity between October 2001 and June 2005. He also pleaded not guilty to two counts of receiving $4,533.13 — property unlawfully obtained — in August 2004 and February 2005.
Chief Justice Richard Ground granted Boodram bail until the next mention of the case on August 1.
Davel Smith, 29, of West Park Lane, Pembroke, will be sentenced on July 20 for causing the death of footballer Randall Swan through dangerous driving.
Mr. Swan, 24, suffered brain damage in the accident on South Road, Southampton, on December 16, 2004. He had been selected for the national football team and had made his debut in a World Cup qualifying warm-up match against Nicaragua. Mr. Swan had also won an FA Cup and league championship medal with Dandy Town Hornets.
Smith has also pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to Kion Wade through dangerous driving on the same date.
Chase Burgess, of Crisson Avenue, Pembroke; Marcus Burgess, of Radnor Estates Road, Hamilton Parish; and Kyle Tavares, of Fairylands Lane, Pembroke, were bailed to appear before the Supreme Court for sentencing on July 17. They are charged with assault and being in possession of offensive weapons at a disturbance in the Fairylands neighbourhood on June 5 last year.
Andrew Laing, of Jamaica, was remanded in custody prior to sentencing on July 6 for charges of conspiracy to import cannabis and heroin.
A woman accused of forging cheques and defrauding several bowling leagues of $1.24 million will be tried on August 6. Jean Marion Burgess, of Loyal Hill Road, Devonshire, was granted bail.
Jonathan Ratteray, of Sears Hill Road, was also bailed ahead of his trial on September 24. He faces charges of obtaining money by deception.
