Glamour, elegance, beauty ...

British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood

Ebony Fashion Fair (EFF) — said to be "the world's largest travelling fashion show" — is bringing its 49th production to Bermuda this weekend as a fundraiser for the Progressive Labour Party and the Continental Society.

'Stylishly Hot' features the latest fashions by world famous designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass and Jean Louis Scherrer.

They will be modelled by 13 professional EFF models — 11 women (one full-figured) and two men.

There will be two shows at the Fairmont Princess Hotel on Sunday, one at 3 p.m. and the other at 8 p.m.

"The show is characterised by its glamour, elegance and beauty, and has all of the energy of a Broadway show. The flare of the world's most creative clothing designs makes Ebony Fashion Fair's 'Stylishly Hot' an event that must not be missed," a spokesperson for EFF says.

Tickets ($250, $150, and $100) are available from PLP headquarters and 27th Century Boutique, and the price includes a choice of a one-year subscription to Ebony magazine or a six-month subscription to Jet magazine; chances to win round-trip air transportation for two to any destination served by American Airlines or American Eagle in the contiguous 48 US states; a one-year supply of hair care products from Soft Sheen-Carson, and selected items from Fashion Fair Cosmetics, the top cosmetic company in the world for women of colour.

This is the second time Ebony Fashion Fair has come to Bermuda, the first being 19 years ago thanks to Olga Scott who, then as now, is a member of the Continental Society, chaired that event.

She is also chairing the committee steering Sunday's shows, arrangements for which have been underway for a year.

Since its inception in 1958, EFF has donated nearly $54 million to charitable organisations, and that is also a requirement of holding the Bermuda event, so part proceeds will be given to the Bermuda chapter of the Continental Society, a registered charity.

"The Bermuda chapter is the only one outside the US, and has been here since the 1960s," Mrs. Scott says.

"We work in the interests of children, and will use the funds to assist them with whatever is needed. We also have a scholarship at the Bermuda College."

Ebony Fashion Fair, a division of Johnson Publishing Company, which publishes Ebony and Jet magazines, is produced and directed by Eunice W. Johnson, a premier fashion authority.

Attending the Bermuda event will be her daughter, Linda Johnson Rice, and her husband. Mrs. Rice, who is president and CEO of Johnson Publishing Company, will address a power breakfast at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Saturday morning at 9.30 a.m. Tickets ($50) are available from PLP headquarters and 27th Century Boutique.
