Cup Match stars to be rewarded
Former Cup Match greats will be honoured this Sunday when Heritage Productions continue to recognise Emancipation by holding their third annual awards presentation to those who have made contributions to the mid-summer classic or the sport of cricket in general over the years.
This year’s event will be held at the BIU Hall in Hamilton, starting at 1 p.m.
A total of eight former players will be the recipients of awards — four from each Cup Match club.
They are Carl (Buckjuice) Swan, Edwin (Joe) Benjamin, George (Friday) Bremar and Eugene (Buckwoods) Woods from Somerset CC and Dennis Wainwright, Eldon Raynor, Elliott Pitcher and Raymond (Jackie) Durham from St. George’s.
Special awards have also been presented to others who have made a contribution to local cricket in other capacities. These include last year’s recipient, long-serving Royal Gazette sports reporter Colin Zuill, long-time cricket umpire Randall Butler and long-serving cricket official and current Bermuda Cricket Board president Reginald Pearman.
