Squash kids compete well
Bermuda’s young squash players will not be bringing home any individual titles from this year’s Caribbean Junior Championships being held in the British Virgin Islands.
But five of the Island’s players did feature in the semi-finals of the various age-group divisions.
In the Girls’ Under-13 group, the Island’s youngest competitor, 11-year-old Emma Keane, played valiantly against top seed Victoria Arjoon of Guyana, losing in straight sets, 0-9, 2-9, 1-9.
In the Boys’ Under-15s, Kristian Muldoon also faced the number one seed, Alex Arjon of Guyana, also suffering a straight sets defeat — 4-9, 2-9, 3-9.
Bermuda’s other semi-finalist in this division, Micah Franklin, won his first game against Trinidad’s Kale Wilson 9-8, but then lost the next three, 9-10, 1-9, 9-3, to lose the match 1-3.
Muldoon and Franklin were scheduled to meet in a battle to decide third place.
In the Girls’ Under-19 competition, Laura Robinson lost 1-3 in a tough match against the Barbadian top seed, Cheri-Ann Parris, 9-6, 2-9, 1-9, 3-9, while in the Boys’ Under-19s Robert Maycock lost 9-7, 5-9, 9-1, 6-9, 3-9 to Trinidadian second seed Josh Pinard.
