Bunge acquires Romanian firm
NEW YORK (Bloomberg) — Bermuda-registered Bunge Ltd., the world's biggest oilseed processor, said it acquired Agricover S.A., Romania's third-largest vegetable-oil maker, to increase sales in southeast Europe.Bunge will gain one plant and some local vegetable oil brands, spokesman Stewart Lindsay said. The White Plains, New York-based company did not disclose the terms of the purchase. A web-site related to the promotion of Romanian businesses said Agricover's plant, located about 20 miles north of Bucharest, employs 625 people.
"Southeast Europe is a strategic region for Bunge with good growth potential," Jean-Louis Gourbin, chief executive officer for Bunge Europe, said today in a statement. "With the recent entry to the European Union of Romania and Bulgaria, we will expand our activities in the food and agribusiness sectors."
