Sims misses out again
A string of three consecutive birdies on the back nine wasn’t enough to save Michael Sims from yet another missed cut on the Nationwide Tour yesterday.
The Island’s number one golfer virtually played himself out of contention with a three-over par 75 in Thursday’s first round of the $750,000 La Salle Bank Open in Illinois.
And on the par-72, 7,263-yard Glen Club course it didn’t get much better for Sims early in his second round yesterday when he made bogey at three of his first four holes.
But while he birdied the fifth and then the 13th, 14th and 15th, the cut line of three-under par was always out of reach.
His misery was complete when he bogeyed both the par-four 17th and par-five 18th to finish the round on two-over 74 and five-over for 36 holes.
It was the 10th time in 12 tournament this season, since earning his Nationwide Tour card last year, that Sims has failed to play the weekend.
His next event will be the $450,000 Rex Hospital Open, starting next Thursday at the TPC Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh, North Carolina.
