Woman stabbed in the face

A young woman was stabbed several times in the face and neck over the weekend, resulting in the arrest of four people.

According to information released yesterday by the Police, they were informed of the incident at 2:25 a.m on Saturday.

The victim, a 24-year-old Pembroke woman, reported that she and a 22-year-old female friend were at the Spanish Point Boat Club earlier when an altercation took place between them and four others.

A Police spokesman said the pair described leaving the club in a blue car, but when they stopped at traffic lights at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Marsh Folly Road the same four individuals appeared and stabbed the 24-year-old passenger. The assailants are said to have then made off in a white car.

The victim, whose name has not been made public by the Police, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. According to a hospital spokesperson, she was treated as an outpatient and released.

A 21-year-old Pembroke woman, two 20-year-old Pembroke women and a 22-year-old Warwick man were arrested and detained at Hamilton Police Station in connection with the incident. The vehicle allegedly used by the suspects was also impounded by Police.

A committee member from Spanish Point Boat Club told this newspaper yesterday that she locked the venue between 1.15 and 1.30 a.m on Saturday and the altercation “definitely didn’t happen on our property”. She declined to give her name.

A Police spokesperson was unable to provide information about the type of weapon used, or details about what time and where, in relation to the boat club, the altercation took place. He said inquiries by Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit were ongoing, and those arrested are likely to appear at Magistrates’ Court this week.
