Paradise Mobile launches its service after four months of testing
After five years in development, new mobile phone company Paradise Mobile fully launches this week, promising, cheaper, faster 5G mobile phone service with unlimited data plans.
“The hardest part about launching Paradise Mobile has been convincing people that we are legit,” chief revenue officer Brett Corday told The Royal Gazette.
Mikaela Ian Pearman, who handles marketing and publicity for the firm, said they had battled scepticism.
“Bermudians are tough customers,” she said.
Paradise Mobile is offering a $79 Essentials plan that includes 10GB of superfast data, unlimited slower data with no extra costs, unlimited local calling and unlimited texts to the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Their $109 Data Freedom plan includes truly unlimited high speed data, unlimited local and North American dialling and unlimited global texting. Both plan prices include the $12 regulatory fees.
“If you used all that data you could crank your speed up to 512 kBps,” he said. “That would be five times faster than our competitors. That will continue to grow. We will also have a feature that none of our competitors have, called wi-fi calling. If you are in a low coverage area you still be able to make a call with your Paradise number.“
Ms Pearman said one of their advantages was their network.
“This network was built from scratch taking into account Bermuda’s unique qualities,” she said. “The network for the legacy carriers was built in the early 2000s.”
Last December, almost 2,000 people signed up to test Paradise Mobile’s service for free, while thousands of people put their names on a waiting list.
“This is a really exciting time,” Mr Corday said. “We could not have done it without the beta testers help.”
He said the feedback had been overwhelmingly positive and encouraging.
It is still unknown what percentage of beta testers will sign up for the full service.
“They have free service until June,” he said. “We will known then.”
Mr Corday said everyone deserved access to hassle-free, reliable connectivity.
“Providing better, cheaper, faster service to Bermuda represents a significant milestone for us as we strive to empower consumers with unparalleled value and transparency in their mobile experiences,” he said.
“Our customers will be able to listen, watch, stream, scroll, and swipe all they want with truly unlimited, fast data.”
During the testing, Mr Corday often personally responded to any problems or complaints posted on Facebook sites such as Maj’s List.
“Often, it was as simple as changing one or two settings on the phone,” he said.
People can sign up for service on the firm’s website.
“Our average sign-up time, right now, is a little over five minutes,” Mr Corday said. “People can come in, put in their name and be on our network in minutes. That is something that you can’t do anywhere else.”
Potential customers can also go to the Paradise Mobile office on the ground floor of the Swan Building at 26 Victoria Street.
