Everest Reinsurance has appointed Jonathan Mesagaes as head of renewable energy. He will report to John Hyland, head of underwriting and marine, and work across the firm’s global specialities division.

Mr Mesagaes brings more than 20 years of experience in underwriting, risk management and actuarial pricing. He joined Everest in 2007 and most recently served as senior marine underwriter, where he led the company’s renewable energy reinsurance portfolio. Earlier roles included chief risk officer and head of actuarial function in Ireland and group reporting and exposure management lead.

“Jonathan has built an impressive renewable energy portfolio, demonstrating the strategic vision, expertise and collaborative leadership essential to enhancing our dedicated offering,” Mr Hyland said. “As the energy transition accelerates, and we evolve our offerings to best serve brokers and clients, renewable energy is a key long-term growth area for our business.”

Everest said the move comes in response to growing global demand for insurance solutions in the renewable energy sector.

“Jonathan’s appointment underscores our investment in the talent and capabilities to meet the unique needs of our clients and brokers in the rapidly expanding market,” added Emily Davis, head of global speciality at Everest Reinsurance.

Mr Mesagaes began his actuarial career at Crum & Forster.
