Bermudian sailors finish World Championship campaigns
Bermudian sailors Sebastian Kempe and Adriana Penruddocke endured some frustrating days during the World ILCA 6 and 7 championships in China this week.
Kempe and Penruddocke were forced to wait four days to start racing after light winds and fog curtailed the start of the regatta at the Qingdao Olympic Centre and they had mixed fortunes on the final day of competition.
Penruddocke made it into the gold fleet and produced two fantastic top-ten finishes in her last two races to finish 33rd of the 99-strong field in the ILCA 6 division. Penruddocke finished on 79 points with finishes of 17th, 22nd, twentieth, tenth and tenth contributing to her final tally.
Louise Cervera, of France, won the gold medal on 17 points ahead of Agata Barwinska, from Poland, and Ireland’s Eve McMahon.
Kempe faced frustrations on the final day, failing to complete the final race. His finishes of 37th, 26th, seventeenth and nineteenth ensured that he finished 85th of the 138 sailors in the ILCA 7.
