Sailor Adriana Penruddocke is aiming to go impress on the final two days of racing at the ILCA 6 Women’s World Championship in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland.

A technical disqualification on Thursday left the Bermudian 29th of 54 in the gold fleet, with Penruddocke’s coach Shaun Priestley explaining the Bermudian was not trying to gain any advantage over her competitors when she got disqualified.

“It was a technical disqualification for wearing a watch as she forgot that she had it on,” Priestley told The Royal Gazette.

“It’s a shame because she was 23rd in that race. You can’t wear a watch that has GPS on it, but she wasn’t purposely wearing it during the race and there’s no performance gain that she could get from it.

“She’s had a top 20 in the gold fleet so far and sadly that qualification would have been the best race on Thursday.

“She’s sailing well and we’re just going to keep trying to execute race by race for the next three races and try to keep the high-quality sailing from her that we’re seeing because it’s really good.”

Going into the penultimate day of racing on Friday, the Central American and Caribbean Games gold medal-winner will be fighting to get into the top 20.

“Up until that disqualification, top 20 was within reach,” the coach said.

“But we’re just trying to get through each individual race as we go and then we’ll take stock at the end of Friday before going into the last day.

“The racecourse is really crazy with the conditions that we’ve got so it’s hard to try and predict where we’re going to be, you’ve just got to try and get through each race with as good a position as we can.

“When we get to the end of Friday we can have a look at the scores and see how we’re shaping up for the last day.

“But in order to get within the medals you have to get into the top ten for the last day. That might be a little bit out of reach for us now.”
