Rising track stars selected to take part in Paraguay camps
A group of 15 athletes and coaches will be heading to Paraguay over the course of the summer to participate in a string of training camps.
The city of Asuncion in the South American country will be hosting the Junior Pan American Games in August and some of Bermuda’s budding athletes have been selected by the Bermuda Olympic Association to take part in a number of sessions in the build-up to the big event.
The camps are designed to provide a “high-performance environment to sharpen skills, strengthen focus and prepare for the demands of top-level competition”.
Youngsters from three sports have been chosen to represent Bermuda and will make the trip alongside talented athletes from other countries in the region.
Sprinters Miles Outerbridge, Norre Robinson, Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert, Amara Samuels and Lashee Jones have been selected to go on the track and field camp from July 13 to 18. They will be joined by middle-distance runners Surii Russell and Jaeda Grant, while Tatiana Sousa, who recently won a silver medal in the javelin at the Carifta Games in Trinidad & Tobago, also makes the trip.
The eight athletes will be accompanied by coaches Syriah Lottimore and Albert Donawa.
Archers Jaydon Roberts and Robin Selley, who have both qualified for the Junior Pan Am Games, will take part in their camp from August 2 to 6, the week before the Games begin.
Swimmer Katherine Wheddon, who was named junior female athlete of the year at the 43rd Annual Government Sports Awards in March, will get the chance to work with some of the leading coaches in the region from July 7 to 12, She will travel alongside coach Ashley Yearwood
